Prior to our first day of class on August 29, we should all start to think about when we will schedule regular group film screening times. One of the weekly requirements of the class is watching a movie and sending me some thoughts about sound and music in it before class. The last time I offered this class, we screened the films in the TA on Thursday evenings from 5-7PM. Depending on what day we pick, I may or may not be able to be physically present for the screenings. (If the timing doesn’t work out, I’ll attend through Google Hangouts or Skype.) The only time that absolutely won’t work is on Mondays prior to 6:30PM.
To have your voice heard on the scheduling issue, please email me your preferences. Once I get an idea of how things are looking, I’ll make a poll on the topic.
In case you were wondering, the films we will screen include: Mildred Pierce (1929), Die Hard (1988), Man With the Movie Camera (1929), Modern Times (1930), Meet Me In St. Louis (1944), Psycho (1960), Thelma & Louise (1991), Sholay (1975), Lagaan (2001), The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (1964), and Delicatessen (1991). This is not an exhaustive list of all the films we will discuss in class, but rather a foundation upon which each seminar meeting will be based.
Group screenings are fun. I promise.
